Elvan bane

  • Powers:
This dwarvan creation is a weapon for the cause of good, which turned out to have more potential for evil.

Gnome and dwarvan artificers wanted to create weapons to help combat the threat of drow in the underdark. Drow-Dwarvan wars almost always went against the stout bearded miners and drove them out of the best mines.

Joining with the Gnomes, they wanted to develop a girdle that could turn the tide in these battles. After a long labor and exhaustive study, the two races decided on what they called Drow bane. These girdles would allow the wearing to do twice the damage with whatever weapon he or she was wielding when attacking drow.

But there was a traitor in their ranks -- one of the artificers was a drow in disguise. He was unable to stop the creation of the girdles, but did alter their exact nature. He extending the damage dealing power to be affective against all fairies and elves.

It was a subtle change in the spell and went undetected by the others involved in the making of the weapons. Many of the dangerous implements were manufactured in dwarvan forges before the treachery was discovered.

News that the dwarves were making weapons to kill all fairies spread and spawned hysterical reactions from all corners of Garidan. Not used to explaining their actions to outsiders, the dwarvan halls were closed to outsiders and the dwarves became even more reclusive, further fueling rumors that they were readying for war.

Unable to alter the spell after their making, the dwarves decided to destroy the girdles, in case they fell into the wrong hands. It was the very next night that thieves came to the dwarven hold and stole the girdles and fled into the night.

The weapon has appeared throughout Garidan. Both elves and dwarves will destroy any they find.

When worn the girdles double damage after all other bonuses and penalties have been applied. With a magical weapon, the damage can be tremendous. The girdles do not add any to-hit bonuses.
