Jaherrin

  • History:
Jaherrin was born with an usual trait, bright violet eyes. His mother saw it as a sign of difficult life and named him Jaherrin, which means "sailor of troubled water."

He grew up in the small town of Waterford where his unusual looks and name made him an outcast. He made it his goal to leave his hometown as the first opportunity.

Fasinated by tales of magic and sorcery, he absorbed every local story and legend of the craft and of beasts that were supposed to be lurking just outside of his hamlet.

Not content to just dream about adventure, Jaherrin decided to follow up on one of the stories he had heard, trying his hand at adventuring. One story told over and over again was of the River Witch, Heloma. She was said to live in the river and would show herself to brave souls who came to the river at midnight during a full moon.

He was only 12 years old but Jaherrin was determined to come face to face with whatever magic he could, even if it was a witch at midnight.

Camped out by the river during a full moon, Jaherrin saw the moonlight in the water begin to shimmer. The silver moonlight danced across the fast moving water and Jaherrin could hardly believe his eyes when the ghostly image of man began to rise out of the river.

He watched as the sharp featured man drifted out of the river like someone waking from a restful slumber. The spirit was cloaked in fabric that seemed to be made of moonlight and his skin was the color of warm harvest moon.

The spirit turned and looked directly at Jaherrin, who was hiding in some nearby trees. The spirit smiled at Jaherrin and then slowly blinked his eyes. It was then that Jaherrin noticed, the spirit's eyes were violet too.

Shocked, Jaherrin lost his footing and fell from the tree.

The spirit came to Jaherrin's side and smiled down at him. He tore a portion of his cloak and gave the glowing material to Jaherrin.

"Take this to the Temple of the Elements. They will teach you the ways of magic." His voice was deep and resounding like a thundering waterfall.

After saying that, the spirit faded from view.

Jaherrin left the next day for the temple. He was taken in and trained as a Geourgist and an enchanter. His time at the temple was some of the best of his life. He was no longer the outcast and town freak. While there was no other pupil or master who had his eye color, everyone was different in their own way. Those who were unusual were celebrated, not punished.

He finished his apprenticeship and began his days as a journeyman . It was time to leave.

He didn't know where to go but didn't want to return home. But the mystery of the water spirit who gave him such a wonderful gift couldn't go unexplored.

He returned home at 22 years of age, no longer a scared boy, but a trained geourgist. The temple requires that journeymen paint their faces as a sign to other members and to the public. Once the geourgists progress to the level of Master, he no longer wears the face paint.

The strips are painted from the side of the face down to the top of the nose and then back up to the other side of the face. The lowest color is blue, representing water, the next color is white representing air, then a strip is left blank, representing earth, and the top triangle is orange, representing fire.
