Jase and Gull

An unlikely pair, Jase and Gull travel the plains and deserts of Garidan looking for treasure and trouble -- they find an abundance of both.

Jase is a 7th level elvan thief/mage. She does most of the treasure and trouble finding for the duo. She has a keen interest in gems and is most interested in fantastically large and flawless jewels or ones that hold magical powers.

Jase has a sword of gem location. It's a +2 long sword which can act as a potion of treasure finding, but it will only look for stores of gems. The sword's gem-finding ability takes a round to activate and will function for 10 turns, after which the power will not function for another 24 hours.

She also has a topaz of ESP. She must hold the gem in her hands to begin hearing others thoughts. She must know the language of the person scanned to fully understand what she is hearing. The gem transmits words, emotions and images, so even without understanding the language, she can learn a great deal. Roll a 1d6 when using the gem, a 1 means the gem will not function that day. Strong emotional states can cause an emotional shadow or echo in the gem user's mind. It can take several days for the user to shake the alien emotions and during this time all rolls to hit rolls are at -1. Roll a 1d6 each day, a roll of 1 or 2 clears the echo. Use of the gem is quite conspicuous -- holding the gem in one hand while gazing intently at someone -- so it is hard to use casually. Gull usually provides a distraction as Jase hides in the shadows, picking through the mind of her unsuspecting victim.

Gull is a 10th level halfling fighter. She is the princess of a southern burrow of halflings far to the southeast of Quail. It is the custom of her people to send their leaders out in the world to gather strength and wisdom to better rule on their return. It was on her sojourns that she met with Jase. Gull couldn't help get caught up in the infectious spirit of adventure that surrounds Jase. Gull adds an element of foresight and this has saved the team on more than one occasion.

Gull wears the tiara that marks her as the future leader of her burrow. The platinum circlet can only be removed during a ceremony by the priest of her burrow. If she dies the tiara is transported back to the borrow. It also acts as a ring of sustenance. During their "testing" the leaders need not worry about starving.

She also wears a cloak of protection that the women made specially for her. It acts as a cloak of protection +3 and rings of warmth and fire resistance. It can contract to a 3 by 3 foot square or can enlarge to cover up to five people. When enlarged, the magical protections extend to all under the cloak.
