Weave
Weave is one of the oldest residents of Garidan, born during the age Ja-Lein when near god-like ancestors of the men ruled Garidan.
In this power- soaked age, Weave (his real name is unknown) was a humble man. He was a minor fortune-teller selling his trade from town to town. One day, which was much like any other, a young woman came to his tent to have her fortune told. Weave began to look into a crystal ball and tell her what he thought she wanted to hear.
Staring into the clear crystal, bright and dark colors clashed. He wanted to look away, but couldn't. Slowly the colors came into focus. Slowly he began to see the fabric of time. The full splendor of the universe was revealed to this moral man and it burned and twisted his mind.
He never saw the woman leave, but suspects it was some wizard or servant of fate.
He was consumed by a desire to re-weave the tapestry, to replace the clashing colors with only the dark twine of evil.
While seeing the Tapestry of Time haunted him, it also gave him greater insight into weaving strands of power. He became the most powerful mage of his time.
But still he needed more time to develop and gather the power it would take to challenge to Fate. Necromancy disgusted him. He believed it created rotten threads in life's fabric. But he could think of no other way to increase his power. He had to become an immortal lich.
He succeeded in leaving his body behind and become an member of the undead. But others of his age were not successful in their endeavors. A spell designed to take the whole continent to another, even more powerful dimension failed. It obliterated the people and destroyed all that was built, only the most powerful beings and artifacts survived.
It would have destroyed Weave too, but his new undead form was tougher than his former frail aging body. He wandered the continent alone. He could still tap into the magical energy of this world, but there was precious little of it left. The magical potency of this world was gone.
So he entered a cave and dropped into a deep trance, letting his astral body wander strange realms while this world went about the task of healing itself.
He recently awoke from his trance. The teaming life on Garidan once again re-invigorated the magical energy of the world and he can feel the power coursing through him.
He respects life because it is the engine that creates new magical energy. He also respects law and feels that evil will bring an order to the world. He is not concerned about individual lives, but will seek to stop mass destruction. He abhors chaos and will also seek to stop the forces of chaos from controlling Garidan. His agenda will eventually pit him against Fate.
He wears two magic items he created since his waking. Upon his head, is a fabric representation of a Beholder. It has the powers of the eye tyrant but each "eye" can only be used once a day. Once a week, he can have it become an actual Beholder under his control. If it destroyed while a Beholder, it loses all magical ability for a week. He also wears a blood red cloak that gives him an armor class of -5 and acts as a robe of seeing.
Around his neck, he wears a royal purple cord which ends in golden spheres. This item has no magical value, but it the only item that he has from the age of Ja-Lein. It was the cord worn by the court mage of the kings of Ja-Lein. He values this court trapping above all else.
